The origin of stirrups is still a mystery, but there is evidence that they were used by Steppe Nomads in 600-300 BC. They were in use, cast in bronze, in China in 300 AD, they were used by the Mongol Tribes in the 5th century AD, and by the northern Europeans in the 8th century.
Today's stirrups are designed mainly for sport, but over the ages they have been used as armour to protect the feet, for show in parades and for displays of personal wealth. We are excited to bring you Stirrups Through History. This is an initial collection of six styles and we will be adding more fascinating designs to this unique collection.
